Breakfast: Featuring Turmeric

I love turmeric. I love the color, the taste and the amazing health benefits. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory whose active ingredient is curcumin. Research on curcumin has shown signs of treatment of cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, allergies, heartburn, and many other ailments. With such a plethora of possible health benefits, why not include it in my diet as much as possible? Today I am featuring turmeric as the star ingredient in two recipes.

The first recipe is my go-to breakfast featuring my chia pancake with a turmeric twist.

1 recipe Josh's Favorite Pancake + 1 t turmeric
1 egg, cooked any way you like
1/4 avocado, sliced
1 slice tomato or salsa

This breakfast is seriously good. It is hardy while also being light. This will leave you feeling satisfied, but not too full.

Next up is what I call a Turmeric Bullet. It was cold and gloomy out and I was craving something hot, warm and healing, so I created this.

2 T coconut cream
1 t turmeric
8 oz. hot water
pinch of cinnamon

This recipe is so soothing and healing, making it a great way to get your daily dose of turmeric. Cream together the coconut cream and turmeric at the bottom of your favorite mug. Then slowly add the hot water while stirring to make sure the turmeric cream is combined evenly throughout. Add a pinch of cinnamon to the top for garnish and enjoy!

  1. I'm hearing a lot about turmeric right now, but I'm not sure I fully understand why it's great to try and include in your diet each day. Can you explain some of the health benefits from your perspective?
